The Illinois Lifelong Learning and Service Coalition
The most important function of Lifelong has been information sharing. Those starting new programs find a wealth of experience and advice from other members. Other goals are to:
Develop strategies to involve retirees on campus as learners, mentors, advocates, sharers of their life experiences.
Advocate for policy and programs that address the educational needs and interests of retirees.
Conduct research on the educational needs and interests of retirees and their attitudes about and habits of volunteering.
Inform the Illinois Board of Higher Education and the Illinois Community College Board about the trends and challenges of retirees.
Please join us for the Civic Engagement launch in Springfield, Illinois.
Attached are registration materials for an event on May 11 called A Day of Celebration and Conversation about the Civic Engagement of Older Adults. The event will be held at the Capitol in Springfield and is part of a National Governors Association (NGA) project, funded by the Atlantic Philanthropies, to expand civic engagement of older adults in Illinois. The NGA defines civic engagement as service, work and learning, so these themes will flow through our celebration and discussion on May 11.
You are invited to join others who are committed to civic engagement by attending the sessions and sharing your ideas and suggestions.
Each session will begin with an overview of the topic and then participants will discuss how we can develop new momentum to engage older Illinoisans.
