Planned Giving

A planned gift is a specially-structured gift that is usually part of a donor’s overall estate or financial plan.  A planned gift may be revocable or irrevocable, it frequently provides financial benefit to the charity at a future date rather than currently, and it often is the largest gift a donor will make.

Some of the most popular vehicles for making a planned gift are:

  • a bequest,
  • a charitable remainder trust,
  • gifts of appreciated securities,
  • lead trusts,
  • life insurance,
  • IRA beneficiary designation,
  • real estate gifts.

The Office of Institutional Advancement is here to help you determine if one of these options might work well for you.  For further information, access sample bequest language, read about types of gifts from estate plans, and view our list of best assets to make a gift.  We always encourage you to consult a financial planner and/or attorney before making any of these decisions permanent.  If you need help identifying someone to work with, we would be happy to assist you.

We know that approximately 80 percent of planned gifts will arrive at a charitable organization without any prior contact with the beneficiary.  If you have made a commitment to support National Louis University but you prefer not to tell us, thank you for your generosity.  We understand that most donors prefer to keep this information private.  If you would like to let us know of a gift plan that includes NLU, please complete the Bequest Communication Form and return it via email or via fax at 312.261.3166.
