New local effort will tackle barriers often faced by Latinos on the path to college

Thursday, 10/29: NLU & NLEI to make announcement about this effort

WHAT: At this Thursday’s 2009 National Latino Education Institute (NLEI) commencement ceremony, National-Louis University and NLEI will announce a new, locally-driven effort to tackle specific barriers often faced by Latinos on the path to higher education.

WHY: NLU and NLEI agree that in a local economy based on knowledge and professional, scientific and technical services, Chicago's Latinos must earn college degrees in greater numbers—for themselves and for their families. They also know the hurdles are formidable. So these two local institutions have joined forces to create a model partnership that combines innovative educational programs with community support to address specific challenges Latinos often face when pursuing a college degree, and to help create the next generation of health care, business and community leaders.
