Become a Healthcare Partner

NLU is looking for healthcare employer partners committed to building rapid training experiences that prepare talented, diverse young people for in-demand jobs.

Employers know what great training looks like, they know the talent they need and the jobs they need to fill, and they have the knowledge, experience, mentors, and resources necessary to create -- with the right partner -- A+ training experiences. AccelerateU can add immediate value (and ultimately save employers money) by preparing new talent in the specific technical, professional, and cultural skills employers need most.

Benefits for the Employer

  • Designing training pathways together based on hiring needs and real jobs;
  • Incorporating feedback from your team (hiring managers, HR staff) regularly on curricula and technical training - you get to help us shape the program;
  • Accessing a new and diverse pool of prospective employees who have developed the technical skills along with the professional (“essential”) skills and mindsets needed to transition smoothly and effectively to your workplace;
  • Aligning hiring processes and timelines to build a smooth transition into full-time work for program completers;
  • Offering an onsite clinical experience which gives you first-hand knowledge of how effective prospective employees will be and the chance to shape the specific approaches and skills employees will have in the workplace;
  • Building skills/experiences of current staff and program alumni as they support the next generations of prospective employees on-site and potentially in NLU classrooms;
  • Early access to and engagement with program participants through networking and other events designed to build “social capital” among learners; and
  • Adjunct instructor opportunities for senior staff or hiring managers.

Commitment from the Employer

Employer partners make a few important commitments to the partnership as well, including:

  • You identify in advance a set number of new medical assistant positions to be filled in your organization and agree to interview Accelerate U program completers as prospective candidates for those positions.
  • You identify three people in your organization who will work with us to ensure this is a successful partnership, including
    • A senior, “C-Suite” leader who will champion this work broadly
    • An HR/Talent representative who can help us ensure we are meeting a talent shortage area and building hiring processes aligned to your needs
    • A hiring manager who can help us ensure that the training we’re providing is relevant, effective, and aligned;
  • You agree to host a place-based internship, including providing an employer mentor/manager who will ensure program participants have a positive experience (with help and support from our coaches and instructors); and
  • You provide us with ongoing data and feedback about learners that are hired.

Training Timeline and Logistics

We will launch the inaugural cohort of Medical Assistant learners in Summer 2021.

The timeline of the program is currently slated to run as follows:

* Exact dates and timing of training and externship are still TBD.  Should be confirmed in early spring 2021.

**NLU can work with employers to determine the appropriate length of the internship.  Learners are required to complete 160 hours of clinical training, but the cadence/dosage each week can be determined in partnership with the employer.

NLU Medical Assistant Certificate Pathway Overview

It was designed to provide the skills necessary to perform as a clinical medical assistant, and to increase marketability by also providing administrative certification. This busy professional can go from the front office, answering the phone and completing insurance forms, to assisting the doctor by performing clinical tasks such as taking vitals, drawing blood or performing an EKG.
