Faces of NLU: Meet Ayah Tomaleh
A third-year Criminal Justice major with law school aspirations talks about working hard in the present to find success in the future.

Ayah Tomaleh, a junior from New York, is currently getting her major in Criminal Justice at NLU, along with a minor in Psychology. She shares a little bit about why she chose NLU, the support she has received, and how she stays focused through stressful times.
Our students choose NLU for many reasons, and Ayah says she was particularly drawn to the extensive support and resources NLU provides:
“NLU has great resources for students and dedicated faculty and staff that will help you and do anything to make sure you succeed.”
Ayah says that the support she’s received at NLU extends beyond academics, too. The comprehensive career preparation services through NLU’s Career Bridge office have helped prepare her for her dream job after graduation:
“They offer a lot of career support and help, especially with creating resumes and finding the right internship to match up with your career interests.”
It’s no surprise that, when asked to describe NLU, one word came to mind for Ayah:
“HELPFUL.”
Achieving your educational and career goals is not always easy, but students at NLU have always shown determination. We asked Ayah to describe the biggest obstacle she’s overcome:
“Sometimes assignments can get overwhelming, especially during finals. When that happens, I remember what I’m working for, and that end goal keeps me going. Losing motivation can be the biggest obstacle, but I try to keep in mind that tough times will pass and will lead to something bigger in the future. You need to always work hard for your goals.”
Within the next five years, Ayah sees herself graduating from law school and starting her career. Her background in criminal justice and psychology will undoubtedly set her up for success in the legal field.
When asked what encouraging words that she wants to share with her fellow NLU students, Ayah says, “Never give up and take care of yourself first.”
