Faces of NLU: Jaqueline Bello

In the community of Elgin, Illinois, Jaqueline Bello is weaving her dreams of educational innovation into reality through her journey at National Louis University. Her path to becoming an elementary educator is more than just an academic pursuit—it's a passionate mission to transform lives through learning.

Growing up in the same district where she now student-teaches, Jaqueline has always felt a deep connection to education. "Throughout my career, I've developed a profound appreciation for the relationships and experiences that come with being in the education field," she reflects. This connection led her to National Louis University, a choice driven by more than just academic reputation.

NLU represented more than just a university to Jaqueline—it was a gateway to her future. The institution's innovative teaching methods, supportive learning environment, and crucial financial support through scholarships made her educational journey possible. Corporate Partnership Scholarships totaling $12,333 and the Megahed Scholarship Fund of $1,000 transformed what could have been an insurmountable financial challenge into an achievable dream.

Currently student-teaching at Hillcrest Elementary, a Title 1 school in her home district, Jaqueline is bringing her classroom learning to life. Each day presents new challenges and opportunities, from crafting engaging lesson plans to navigating the complex dynamics of a diverse classroom. "This experience has been enriching," she says, "providing practical application of my studies in a real-world setting." Her approach goes beyond traditional teaching—she sees herself as an innovator, committed to pushing boundaries and finding creative solutions to educational challenges.

Her academic journey has been shaped by remarkable mentors, none more influential than Professor Sarah McNamara. "Her teaching style, passion for the subject, and ability to make complex topics accessible have made the class engaging and enjoyable," Jaqueline explains. One standout course, EDU290: Professionalism and Ethical Engagement, has been particularly transformative, exploring critical issues in education and emphasizing the importance of ethical frameworks.

Beyond academics, Jaqueline has embraced the broader university experience. As a member of Tau Sigma National Honor Society and the National Society of Leadership and Success, she's built a network of high-achieving peers and developed leadership skills that extend far beyond the classroom. Her advice to fellow students reflects her inclusive spirit: "Embrace the diversity that the university offers. Take this opportunity to learn from one another, broaden your perspectives, and build lasting connections."

When asked to describe her future in one word, Jaqueline chose "Innovator"—a testament to her commitment to continuous improvement and positive change. Balancing accelerated courses with full-time work has been challenging, but her determination has been unwavering. "Despite a busy schedule, my determination to succeed allowed me to efficiently collaborate, seek guidance, and dedicate extra hours to overcome obstacles," she shares.

National Louis University has been more than an educational institution for Jaqueline—it's been a transformative experience that has shaped her personal and professional growth. As she looks toward her future in education, she carries with her the support of mentors, the backing of scholarships, and an unshakeable commitment to making a difference in students' lives.

For Jaqueline Bello, education is not just a career—it's a calling. And at National Louis University, she's finding her voice, honing her skills, and preparing to become the innovative educator she was meant to be.
