NLU Earns Carnegie Elective Classification for Community Engagement

We are thrilled to share that National Louis University has been re-awarded the Carnegie Elective Classification for Community Engagement—a prestigious national recognition of our deep and sustained commitment to working in partnership with communities to advance the public good. The University originally was classified in 2015.

This achievement reflects the extraordinary efforts across our colleges, departments, and student services to embed community engagement into our teaching, research, and institutional identity.

This was a collective effort and deepest gratitude is extended to everyone who made it possible. Faculty and staff across the university contributed to the application by sharing stories, data, and evidence of how we build meaningful partnerships, advance equity, and support civic learning. Special thanks to those who supported the collection of program examples, reviewed drafts, served on working groups, and participated in the self-study process. Your thoughtful engagement was critical to earning this recognition.

This designation reinforces our shared mission to empower students to be active participants in their communities, and it affirms our role as a university dedicated to advancing educational equity and social impact.

Let’s celebrate this collective achievement and continue the important work of expanding our community-engaged teaching, scholarship, and service.
