NLU’s Safety and Driver’s Education Endorsement Expands Opportunities for Illinois Teachers
The National College of Education at National Louis University is helping Illinois teachers build more versatile careers through its new Safety and Driver’s Education Endorsement. Launched in 2025, the program prepares licensed secondary educators to teach both classroom and behind-the-wheel driver education at the high school level.
Educators can complete the required coursework fully online in as little as eight months while continuing to teach. The 12–18 semester hour program, offered at $400 per semester hour, is aligned with Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) standards and designed to meet the needs of working professionals.
The endorsement offers multiple benefits: increased salary potential, expanded teaching qualifications, and greater long-term career stability. Because driver education is required in all Illinois high schools, there is a steady demand for certified instructors, making this endorsement a practical investment for teachers seeking new opportunities.
“This endorsement provides any secondary teacher with a meaningful opportunity to move into another pay lane while maintaining flexibility in their schedule. It can also create a source of ongoing supplemental income through teaching driver’s ed, both during the school year and in the summer,” noted Christopher Lilly, Director of NCE’s Advanced Professional Programs.
NCE is currently recruiting for its next cohort. To apply, complete NLU’s Admissions Application. For more information about program details, tuition, or enrollment, email the NLU Enrollment Team at enrollment@nl.edu or call 888-658-8632.
