Academic Innovation at NLU

National Louis University has a deep history in academic innovation starting with early childhood education, continuing through advancements in adult education and online, and to today with our unique position in the support of students who come to NLU from diverse backgrounds and experience sets.  As we look to the future we seek to understand and address educational challenges in a diverse and dynamic global era by transforming traditional learning experiences into one that are accessible, student-centered, and committed to equity for all students. Academic Innovation at the University is a shared responsibility and vision bringing together teams of faculty, staff, and students to apply research and evidence to create forward-looking, sustainable academic solutions to ensure the University’s students achieve their educational, career, and life goals.

On this page, you can find information about current academic innovation projects. For more information join a quarterly academic innovation showcase where a team engaged in a project will provide a deep dive into the problem being addressed and the way(s) the innovation will help students be ever more successful in their academic and life journeys.

Competency-based Education (CBE)

While not a new academic innovation, you may have been hearing more about competency-based education (CBE) in the last several years. To meet contemporary students' needs for an expedited graduation timeline, as well as low-cost, and authentic learning opportunities, NLU is exploring CBE offerings.
