2023 CTLE Fellowships

This year the Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence (CTLE) will be hosting XX Fellows, faculty who will collaborate with the CTLE on the topics listed below. The bullets list the activities that the Fellow will engage during their 1-year Fellowship. Fellowships are funded opportunities - faculty receive a load reduction to serve as a Fellow. This is an exciting opportunity for a full-time faculty member to collaborate with the CTLE on to support NLU faculty and to engage an emerging area.

If you’re interested, please complete the application by June 1, 2023. Decisions will be made by June 15, 2023.

AI Fellowship

This is an exciting opportunity to collaborate with the CTLE on efforts to experiment with classroom use of AI with students. The ultimate outcome of this Fellowship is inquiring about effective uses of AI in the classroom. The CTLE hopes that findings from experiments will lead to dissemination - conference presentation and/or publication.

  • Survey the higher education landscape to gather current AI practices and experiments at other Universities.
  • Survey the workforce landscape to gather employers’ desired AI skills for future employees
  • Conduct experiments using AI that increase efficiency and/or increase student outcomes
  • Create guidelines for the use of AI in the classroom
  • Create guidelines for the use of AI to develop course materials

Communities of Practice Fellow

This is an existing opportunity to collaborate with the CTLE to develop and lead longer-form professional development. There’s flexibility when choosing the topic(s) for the professional development - so the Fellow can customize the work to align with their expertise and interest.

  • Coordinate with DEI Council, DEI Director, relevant senate committees, staff council, and administrators to create an equity inquiry framework.
  • Co-host sessions that help faculty and staff use the equity inquiry framework to evaluate their practices.
  • Co-host a series of sessions designed to implement equitable pedagogical practices.
    • Grading practices
    • Incorporating student voice in the work
    • Curriculum review
  • Facilitate monthly Courageous Conversation series

Research Fellow

This is an exciting opportunity to apply research expertise, in both content and methodology, to events that build the research knowledge and skills of the NLU community.

  • Lead the development and implementation of the Winter Virtual Research Seminar
  • Develop and manage a monthly PD series on thought leadership that helps to support the University's research strength areas.
