CALL FOR PROPOSALS

CALL FOR PROPOSALS
We invite you to act as a presenter for NLU’s second annual Research and Practice Spring Symposium
Friday, June 4th, 1:00 - 4:00 pm

The event brings us together to present and learn around a core question at  NLU.  This year, our core question is:

How are we working toward greater diversity, equity, and inclusion in our research and practice?

In the discussions during our research seminar last month, empathy and resilience came up as strong themes in our practice and scholarship. We welcome any proposals that touch on questions such as:

  • How does empathy support working towards greater diversity, equity, and inclusion?
  • How is resilience a component of working towards greater diversity, equity and inclusion?

There are two options for presenting: leading a breakout session, or posting a Flipgrid presentation.  Please see details below.

The due date for all proposals is Wednesday May 12th.

Breakout session:  The goals of these sessions are to share and build conversation on an aspect of practice or research related to the shared questions.  Sessions will be 50 minutes long.

You are welcome to apply individually or as partners or a team. As session lead(s), you will 1) present informally for 15-20 minutes on an aspect of your research/ teaching/work that speaks to the symposium question, 2) co-facilitate a conversation on your presentation and related work by the session participants, and 3) guide participants to capture their closing thoughts using Padlet or any tool that you are comfortable using. Leading a session gives you the opportunity to showcase an aspect of your work, hear the responses of colleagues, and learn what others are doing.

To apply:  Please use the link below to complete a brief four-question application.  The application will ask for a paragraph describing a) your proposed session topic of an aspect of your research/practice that addresses the symposium core question and b) what will be covered in your presentation.

Please submit proposals by Wednesday, May 12th

Flipgrid Gallery: For this year’s symposium, we are piloting the use of a Flipgrid gallery.  Flipgrid is a video discussion tool that offers an excellent platform for getting responses to a work in progress. It has been used for our annual Doctoral Students Symposium; please see an example presentation here.  We will accept the first 10 Flipgrid proposals we receive that address the symposium topic. If your proposal is accepted, we’ll send detailed instructions on how to prepare and post your Flipgrid presentation, and provide any support needed.

To apply, please use the link below to complete a brief 4-question application. The application will ask for a paragraph describing your Flipgrid topic: an aspect of your research/practice that addresses the symposium core question.
