John’s academic and professional interests focus on AI governance, regulatory compliance, and financial crime prevention. His work explores how emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and advanced analytics are reshaping risk management, regulatory oversight, and organizational strategy in financial services.
He is particularly interested in the governance and ethical deployment of AI in regulated industries, including how institutions can operationalize responsible AI frameworks to strengthen compliance programs, enhance oversight, and mitigate emerging risks. His research also examines the evolving role of public-private collaboration, regulatory modernization, and technological innovation in the global fight against financial crime.
John’s teaching philosophy emphasizes interdisciplinary learning, strategic problem solving, and the integration of finance, economics, and management principles with technological and regulatory trends. He is passionate about bridging academic theory with real-world application and preparing students to lead in highly regulated and rapidly evolving business environments.
Biography:
John Calderon is an educator, business strategist, and experienced financial services executive with over 15 years of governance, risk, and compliance experience in the banking and fintech sectors. His professional background includes leadership roles at MUFG, Deutsche Bank, UBS, Bank of America, and multiple community banks, where he specialized in governance, strategy, and organizational leadership.
In addition to his teaching role at National Louis University, John serves as Founder and Chair of the Coalition Against Financial Crime (CAFC), a national organization focused on advancing integrity, innovation, and security within the financial system. He is also the Founder and President of ClearPath Compliance, a boutique consulting firm dedicated to strategic advisory, program development, and governance frameworks for financial institutions.
John is deeply committed to bridging professional practice with academic learning. His teaching emphasizes applied leadership, strategic thinking, and critical analysis, equipping graduate students with the skills to navigate complex business environments, lead with confidence, and drive innovation in their respective fields.
