Programs/Classes Taught:
Taught multiple graduate (master’s and doctoral) and undergraduate courses in the Division of Education & Counseling. Responsible for school practicum placement and supervision of Xavier’s undergraduate students.
Undergraduate courses taught provided research-based methods and strategies for students majoring in education. These courses introduced undergraduate students to the process of classroom management, introduced exceptional education, covered legal aspects regarding special education, focused on educating pre-service teachers on how to instruct diverse k-12 student populations, and monitored undergraduate students while they participated in teacher observations and local schools.
Graduate courses provided research and evidenced based methods and strategies for graduate students who were obtaining alternative certification for teaching k-12 schools in Orleans Parish. These courses were hybrid (part online and part face-to-face) and were designed for student-teachers who were working in Orleans Parish Charter schools as teachers of record. Coursework provided graduate students with research-based strategies, and professional development modules grounded in current evidence-based practices. Master level graduate courses centered on special education, and covered a myriad of topics regarding the process, implementation, and legal requirements for teachers of students with disabilities, and students with language differences. Courses also focused on test taking strategies for students who needed to take Praxis examinations, to become certified teachers.
Doctoral coursework in Xavier’s Education Leadership program focused on current educational issues school leaders encounter, regarding special education. Coursework was structured to instruct school leaders on becoming transformative administrators within their various capacities in Orleans Parish. Coursework also focused on qualitative research methods in educational leadership and special education research. Lastly, course work focused on test taking strategies for students who needed to take School Leaders Licensure Assessment (6011), to become a certified school administrator in Louisiana.
Conducted regular observations for students who were currently working as classroom teachers in charter school networks throughout New Orleans.
