Digital Tools for Teachers

The Digital Tools for Teachers courses are designed for educators and technology coaches who want to build their capacity, teaching strategies, and eLearning teaching resources through hands-on experiences with cutting-edge learning technologies.

Enroll This Summer!

NLU is offering the digital tools for teachers courses in a special summer session.

Programs are open to ALL P12 educators and higher-education faculty working in formal or informal teaching and remote learning environments. Completing all four of the digital tools for teachers courses is a "must-have" experience for technology coaches and educators who want to use technology to creatively and collaboratively engage their students in exploring and applying 21st century technology skills to real-world communications, critical analysis, and problem-solving.

The program consists of four (4) one semester hour online courses.

Classes are structured to be hands-on, with exploration using a variety of digital tools for use in teaching and learning in P21 contexts:

Course 1: TIE 585AX Social Media for Student (and Teacher!) Growth
Now more than ever, teachers rely upon their virtual relationships with peers for remote learning support and professional development. This course will support teachers as they strengthen and expand their professional learning networks and seek tools and effective strategies for engaging students in remote learning.

Course 2: TIE 585AW Maker Movement and STEAM Education: An Introduction
This design thinking course convenes a community of practice that is unique to maker/design courses. The emphasis is on understanding how to scaffold learning in science, technology, engineering, and math integrating arts (STEAM) through engaging hands-on activities in the classroom or remote learning.

Course 3: TIE 585BA Coding in Your Classroom: Getting Started
Did you know that your K-12 students can learn programming concepts using a computer – or "unplugged" (meaning no computers!)? Through this course, you'll learn how to engage learners in computer-based – or computer-free – activities and tools for the classroom or remote learning.

Course 4:  TIE 585AV Introduction to G Suite (Google tools) for Education
Many K-12 schools are using Google tools for learning both in the classroom and for remote learning. This course is an overview of the digital tools and their instructional applications.  This course features digital tools included in Google Certification for Educators.

Certificate of Completion
Upon successful completion of all four courses, participants will receive a professional certificate of completion.

For more information about these courses, including program details, tuition and fees,  please contact our enrollment team.

We encourage the use of tuition reimbursement for professional development purposes. Teaching strategies can be directly applied in classroom and eLearning settings.

Courses can be applied towards degree credit in the Learning Sciences Education M.Ed. or Ed.S. programs

Candidates will gain enhanced expertise in teaching 21st century technology skills to P-21 students, a skill set that can lead to increased and diversified employment opportunities.
