The 11th Annual Literacy Conference
On Saturday, March 11, 2023, 40 reading specialist students came together at the National Louis University Wheeling Campus to present at the 11th Annual Professional Development in Literacy Conference.
There were 11 different sessions with topics including: foundational literacy skills, oral language development, writing, children’s literature, bilingual literacy development, and literacy development in the middle grades.
Students shared key learnings about literacy teaching in engaging, interactive presentations. Conference attendees represented NLU faculty members, alumni of the reading program, and current students in our teacher preparation programs, and they all left the conference with lots of great ideas for enhancing their own literacy instruction, assessing early literacy skills, vocabulary and comprehension, planning literacy instruction for bilingual and dual language learners, and using children’s literature to support language acquisition, social emotional learning, and culturally responsive instruction.
Thanks to all the presenters and attendees!
