2023 Teaching and Learning Symposium

The Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence (CTLE) is proud to bring you the 2023 Teaching & Learning Symposium. Join your colleagues in the spirit of innovation to review the past year's equity work and use that as a launchpad into next year's pedagogical experimentation.

After a keynote presentation, you will have an opportunity to reflect and share the pedagogical practices you have experimented with in the past year. After discussing with your colleagues, you will be asked to brainstorm some practices that you would like to try next year. These may be borrowed from your colleagues or created in collaboration with them!

Please join us June 9, 2023 from Noon - 2:00pm (CST)

Keynote: Gloria McDaniel-Hall

This year and for the first time, the Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence (CTLE) and the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion have worked with a CRP Fellow, Gloria McDaniel-Hall. As a thought leader, Dr. McDaniel-Hall collaborated with the DEI Director and the CTLE to facilitate our Crucial Conversation series. She will be sharing her thoughts and learnings from the Courageous Conversation series and other DEI initiatives from around NLU.

Please check out and subscribe to Gloria's Podcast, Urban Legends. You can also learn more about her inspirational story in her book, Gloria Finds Her Voice.

Breakout Session Themes

The themes that will be addressed in the breakout session are from the Community Builder domain of the Teaching Excellence Framework.

  • Foster an equitable and inclusive learning community.
  • Ensure that students' identities are represented, recognized, and valued.
  • Leverage the learning opportunities of social, collaborative, and peer interactions when designing and facilitating learning experiences.

You'll be asked to use a Reflection Slide in the PowerPoint deck and share new practices in the JamBoard.
