Café Dining Options
Explore NLU’s café dining options with fresh, convenient meals and coffee in welcoming spaces to study, connect, and recharge.
Located on the newly-renovated 12th floor of the 18 South Michigan Ave. building, the café Summer hours are Monday through Thursday , 11:15am-1:15pm; Closed on Fridays.

In addition to the Skylight Café, the Daily Grinds will maintain their current hours of operation:
- Daily Grind II (122 S. Michigan Ave.) Hours: Monday -Friday 7:00am-4:00pm
- Daily Grind I (18 S. Michigan Ave.) Hours: Monday -Friday 7:00am-7:00pm
Along with the grand opening, several other value-added elements are being launched at this time:
Affordable Meals
In our Skylight Café, affordable $7 Combo Meal Options will be available every day and there will be optional à la carte items as well. The Daily Grind will continue to serve sandwiches and soups at affordable prices. Meals can be purchased using a credit/debit card or the Campus Dining Card Program.
Campus Dining Card
- Employees and Students can pre-load a set dollar amount onto their University ID Card by going to webpurchase.nl.edu and selecting the “Meal Plan” option on the left section of the screen.
- Funds can be used at the Skylight Cafe or the Daily Grind Coffee Shops, giving you flexibility no matter your schedule.
- Balance is not restricted to a term and amounts pre-loaded can also be used to buy items in the gift shop.
Campus Dining Loyalty Program
To reward our community for staying local and eating with us and therefore building and supporting our campus community, we are offering two types of loyalty reward programs:
- Dining Bucks Value Plan – Pre-load funds onto your University ID and enjoy easy, cashless dining at the Skylight Cafe and Daily Grind plus get extra value when you load more. For every $100 loaded on your ID card, you will receive $25 in additional funds to spend.
- Dine More, Get More – When you purchase 5 combo lunch meals in the Skylight Café, you get the 6th one free. Purchases must be a designated combo lunch meal. And, funds purchased through the Dining Bucks Value Plan can be used to buy the combo meals.
More Options, More Convenience
- On the rare days when the Cafe is closed due to a special event, your dining card can still be used at the Daily Grind.
- Prefer to pay as you go? Credit/debit cards will continue to be accepted at all locations.
