Biography:

In my role as tenured faculty within the College of Psychology and Behavioral Sciences, I teach classes, supervise student pilot research and dissertation projects and conduct my own community psychology research.  I am currently program PhD program chair and have previously held administrative roles including Psychology department chair, School Director and college Dean.

I remain active in multiple professional associations including the Society for Community Research and Action (SCRA), Division 27 of the American Psychological Association and the Chicagoland Evaluation Association (CEA), the local affiliate of the American Evaluation Association.

I currently serve as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Prevention and Intervention in the Community (JPIC) as well as a fellow of the Midwestern Psychological Association (MPA) as well as the Society for Community Research and Action (SCRA) - Division 27 of the American Psychological Association (APA). 

I periodically consult with local nonprofits specializing in program evaluation, community building, and collaborative community research. Clients have included local and national nonprofit organizations, public school systems, public health agencies, museum and art institutions, social service agencies, and community development organizations.

Research and Interests:

My research and advocacy interests involve promoting healthy communities and increasing civic engagement and prosocial behavior of individuals and groups within communities. More specifically, this has led me to a varied range of research topics including: neighborhood revitalization, urban education for students with disabilities, substance abuse aftercare, affordable housing, access to healthcare, access to healthy food, Posttraumatic Growth among first responders, and violence prevention and intervention programs for youth.
