Presentation Guidelines
Eligibility for Oral Presentations
Oral presentations, given during breakout sessions, are intended for recent graduates and current students who meet one of the following criteria:
- Have completed their dissertation, or
- Have completed data analysis and written up their findings
Following acceptance, please email your PowerPoint to DocSymposium@nl.edu no later than two full days before the event. Advance submission enables moderators to prepare discussion questions and ensures a backup copy is available should technical issues arise.
Presentation Overview (Adapted from AERA guidelines)
- Presentations are 20 minutes total, including a dedicated 5-minute question-and-answer period
- Presenters should plan for 15 minutes of presentation, followed by 5 minutes for audience questions
- Practice your presentation in advance to ensure you stay within the allotted time
PowerPoint Expectations
- Slides should serve as an outline of the research
- Use bullet points rather than full sentences
- Slides should support—not replace—the spoken presentation (do not read slides verbatim)
