To kickstart your journey with us, we recommend the following initial steps:
Review Your FAFSA Application: Take a moment to verify your financial aid status by checking your FAFSA application. This step is crucial in securing the financial support necessary for your education. To facilitate this process, please use the following link to access and update your 2023-2024 FAFSA form, ensuring that you change the school code to NLU's designated code (001733).
Order Your Transcripts: Please fill out this formto request that all your transcripts* be sent to NLU. Transcripts from previous institutions are required and filling out this form allows NLU's Admissions team to process and order your transcripts on your behalf.
Complete Your NLU Application: Use this link to submit your application to NLU. This form is for both Bachelor's and Master's programs. (Please note: the shortened version is currently not working. When you start an application, you should receive an email introducing you to your assigned NLU Enrollment Specialist. Inform your Enrollment Specialist that you are a Union student so you don't have to complete the full application.)
*For Union Bachelor's students: it is important that you complete the above form for each higher educationinstitution you have attended (including Union). For anyinternationaltranscripts: NLU requires a foreign evaluation transcript (course by course) for that credit, which we accept from one of theseagencies. Follow the directions on this webpage to submit a request.

Once your application is complete and all documents are accepted:
You will receive a congratulatory email from the Director of Admissions.
Your info then will be sent directly to NLU's Registrar’s office so they can transfer in your course credits from Union appropriately.
After this process is completed, your information will be sent to your NLU program Advisor. She will register you for the classes you need, and she will send you an email confirming which courses she’s enrolled you in. If you have any questions or concerns about that process, please respond to her email and copy your Program Chair at MMiller113@nl.edu so that the two of them can work as a team to ensure your course registrations are exactly what you need.

As long as you have submitted everything, including an updated FAFSA if applicable, it’s all on our Admissions team now to review all your transcripts, do a final evaluation, and then you’ll get an email from them with an official admissions letter. Then your NLU Advisor, Desiree, will register you for classes and get you your NLU #, email, and access to our NLU portal and your class. In the interest of expediency, we register students first and provide the PAL link for students to set up for appointments in our registration confirmation. So just want to set expectations that we’d be registering first and reaching out second.
Courses were moved from the Union D2L platform to the NLU D2L platform. That took tremendous effort. All courses are now successfully transferred and updated and your instructors are currently preparing your courses. If your course isn’t open yet, please be patient and know that the plan is to have all courses turned to active status and open for Bachelor's students by Thursday 4/4.
In this transition, some books needed to be changed. The bookstore was fully updated this week. Your instructors will work with you and understand that you may experience a delay getting your materials. As a convenience, Mary will be sending the textbook list to all students.

If you have a question regarding your specific course please reach out to your instructor directly. There was a tremendous amount of material moved quickly. As hard as we tried, there could be a broken link or missing document. Your instructors have the resources to resolve quickly and will work with you.

National Louis University (NLU) has set June 30 2025, as the matriculation deadline for students transferring from Union Institution & University (UI&U) to be included under the exceptions granted by this program transfer arrangement. After June 30, 2025 UI&U students will apply to NLU as new students and are subject to standard NLU academic policies and requirements. Students transferring to NLU under this agreement have up to five years to complete their degree for bachelor’s programs and up to three years to complete their degree for master’s programs. Exceptions being granted to UI&U transfer students are as follows:
NLU will waive its 60-quarter hour minimum requirement of general education credit for bachelor degree seeking students under this agreement. Instead, students will be allowed to satisfy the equivalent of the 54 quarter hours in general education courses as previously required by the program at Union Institute and University.
The NLU residency requirement of completing at least 45 quarter hours at NLU for bachelor’s programs will be waived.
Restrictions on the maximum number of transfer credits to be counted toward a master’s program will be waived.
Students will be subject to all standard fees associated with prior learning assessment.
Students who discontinue enrollment for one year will no longer be covered under this agreement and will be subject to standard NLU academic policies and requirements.
All course requirements are satisfied by a grade of C or higher.
All prior clinical affiliation agreements must be re-executed and approved by NLU.
During the remainder of the current academic year (2023-2024) and upcoming 2024-2025 academic year, students transferring to NLU will follow the same tuition rate set by UI&U (which is fairly comparable to NLU’s current undergraduate and graduate school of business and leadership tuition rates). Tuition rates beyond the 2024-2025 academic year will be reviewed and subject to change like all other academic programs at NLU. Tuition rates for UI&U transfer students for the academic period previously referenced are:

$237.00 per quarter hour (equivalent to UI&U’s rate of $395.00 per semester hour rate and based on for a 3 credit hour course and its equivalence to a 5 quarter hour course)
