Assessment at National Louis University
The goal of assessment at NLU is to exhibit accountability for continuous improvement as an institution; assess whether students are developing the knowledge, skills, and competencies expected of NLU graduates; and create a culture of data-informed inquiry.
As an institution, NLU's assessment practice is:
- Meaningful—matters to people involved
- Impactful—leads to change
- Manageable—realistic and actionable
- Informative—answers and generates inquiry
- Robust—useful in many ways
Assessment and Accreditation act as consultants to support and empower faculty and staff to lead assessment practices throughout the university. As assessment at NLU is not a “standalone” effort, we work together with faculty and staff, as well as other institutional initiatives (program review, student success, curriculum design, etc.) to ensure adherence to the University’s strategic plan and function as an institutional data-driven critical enabler.
The NLU Assessment Guide facilitates university efforts to assess student learning and create a culture of continuous improvement by providing a toolbox of shared terms and frameworks essential to critically engaged assessment work.
