Assistance with reading or writing

• NaturalReader: Text-to-speech that also offers a Google Chrome extension to read anything on the web.
• Voice typing in Google docs: Free speech-to-text software is built into Google suit platforms (e.g. Google docs and Google slides). 
• Voice typing extension for Google Chrome: Use voice typing on any website.
• Microsoft Office Lens: Converts photos of text into PDFs or Word documents.
• Grammarly premium: Highly recommended to help proofread assignments.
• Beeline Reader: Converts text into a color gradient to promote reading focus and comprehension.
• Openlexia: Dyslexia-friendly font to improve reading.

Reduce screen strain

• F.lux: Adjusts screen brightness and warmth to reduce eye strain and headaches. 
• Dark mode on Google Chrome: Converts webpages to have black backgrounds. Recommended to manually turn on the extension on certain pages that you'd like to use it on.
• Dark mode on Adobe Acrobat Reader: Converts PDFs to have black backgrounds.
• Dark mode for Microsoft Word: Converts Word documents to have black backgrounds.

Tools for limited hand/arm mobility

• Emulate mouse clicks: Use voice commands to use mouse clicks (you will first need to make a GitHub account and download the software)
• CameraMouse: Free, downloadable program that enables you to control the mouse pointer on your computer screen just by moving your head.

For remote learning, your instructor will use D2L and possibly Zoom. Below are helpful resources to familiarize with these platforms.

• Schedule an Appointment with Learning Support: Math and Writing Specialists are available for providing assignment feedback, guidance, and accountability. You may also request weekly appointments.
• Study Tables: Live math and writing tutoring Monday-Friday from 1-5pm. Students can also use this as a general study space to do work.
• Drop off assignment: Submit math or writing assignment to receive written feedback within 2 business days.
• Library Support Appointments: Librarians are helpful for using databases, developing topics, and suggesting sources/journals for research.
• Help Desk and User Services: Contact helpdesk@nl.edu or (866)-813-1177 for assistance with technology, NLU login, D2L, Banner, Microsoft Office, or Zoom.
• Food Pantry & THRIVE Resources: Community resources to help meet basic needs of students.
• Counseling & Wellness Services: Therapy and mental health resources.
• Telehealth Services: Free, unlimited access to doctors and therapists for NLU students.
