Tech and Data-informed Instruction

Our lives, our students lives, and the classroom are filled with technology. Technology helps us share content with students in ever-expanding ways. It allows us to create amazing experiences with students and learn about them in previously unthinkable ways. Technology also helps us connect with and understand student progress and engagement in new ways. The flow of information between students and instructors - and among faculty - creates mountains of data. Understanding how to access relevant data to adapt to students' needs in real-time will make us transformative instructors.

In another way, the data we (instructors and students) create during a course can be a transformative if we pause to reflect upon it. Transferring the skills we learn in one place (such as an online class) to another (such as our jobs or the next class) is vital for continuous growth and improvement - and reflection makes that possible.

Again, all of these insights are made possible by the technology and tools that has become a part of our daily lives. New innovations will continue to change the way we teach, often pushed by necessity. The bimodal classroom is one example of this innovation by necessity. When the pandemic closed down businesses and public places, students still wanted to connect with faculty in the way they had set out to do prior to 2020. DTENs, Zoom, and other tech made that possible. While the learning curve can be steep, the resources here will help prepare you for today's - and tomorrow's - classroom.
