Timothy Dohrer
Biography:
Timothy Dohrer has been a classroom teacher, administrator, and author for 35 years in K-12 schools and higher education. For 23 years, he was a teacher, teacher leader, and Principal at New Trier High School in Winnetka, Illinois, a school of 4,000 students and staff. For the past 12 years, he has served as an Assistant Professor and Director of the M.S.Ed program at Northwestern University and Director of Educator Leadership and Partnerships at Northern Illinois University.
Dr. Dohrer’s major areas of research include social & emotional learning, school climate, curriculum and instruction, teacher education, and school leadership. His most recent book, The Schools We Need Now: A Guide to Designing a Mentally Healthy School, is a best-seller from Corwin Press. He continues to write and consult with schools across the country.
Currently, he is the President of the SEL4IL Alliance, and a member of several advisory boards, including “The Leader in Me”. Dr. Dohrer has B.A.'s in English and Journalism from Indiana University, an M.A. in English from Northwestern University, and a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from Pennsylvania State University.
