O’Hare Noise Compatibility Commission, Chicago, IL - April 2000 - January 2010

 

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR              

Selected to oversee formal policy-making group comprised of representatives from 27 municipalities, 1 county, and 15 public school districts. Lead the planning, administration and funding of noise mitigation and relief projects for neighboring communities affected by aircraft traffic from O’Hare International Airport.  Directly responsible for all Commission activities and operations, including member communications, public affairs, consultant contracts, financial planning, meeting planning, recordkeeping, and reports and budgets. 

POLICY DEVELOPMENT: Developed and implemented new policies and resolutions to enhance program planning and administration and promote support of ONCC.

COMMUNICATIONS LEADERSHIP: Reviewed and coordinated\ effective responses to all ONCC correspondence to federal agencies, elected officials, regulators (FAA), general public, members, non-members, and select community and the airline representatives. Oversee production and timely dissemination of annual reports, membership orientation materials, press releases, and other communications. Plan and provide editorial oversight for quarterly newsletter.

OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT AND FINANCIAL REPORTING: Managed all financial and budgetary areas, including accounts payable; human resources management, purchasing, and member/staff travel.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH, PUBLIC AFFAIRS LIAISON:  Strengthened the Commission’s presence and profile in O’Hare area communities through strategic initiatives to address aircraft noise. Prepare and present testimony at hearings and public forums for the O’Hare Modernization Program. Planned and coordinated promotional materials. Create new outreach programs to address aircraft noise issues. Presented legislative updates on aircraft noise mitigation at Commission meetings. Plan and execute participation in aviation noise and environmental conferences.

Leadership Initiatives, Accomplishments, AWARDS:

  • Provided expert financial direction of the Commission, realizing significant cost savings each year.  Initiated new policies to improve program operations: Drafted travel policy for members and staff. Developed an employee handbook and promoted employee training.
  • Instrumental in identifying opportunities, including meetings and forums, to enhance the joint participation and cooperation of City of Chicago, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), airlines, air traffic controllers, Commission membership and community leaders. 
  • Designed promotional items and contributed to the development of a long-form videotape to promote ONCC program goals and objectives. Received the 2001 Association Forum of Chicagoland’s Care Corps Community Service for an Individual Award, in dedication to community service programs that have demonstrated successful results.
  • Drafted the “Commission Member and Leader Orientation” document, a comprehensive information vehicle that currently serves as a primer for new members and a refresher guide for existing associates. Upgraded the group’s web site to feature information on publications, meeting schedules and minutes. Contributed testimony for delivery to House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and Senate Commerce Committee hearings on the O’Hare Modernization Program and aircraft noise issues.

 

National Automatic Merchandising Association (NAMA), Chicago, IL - 1999 - April 2000

DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION

Led the development and administration of member-based educational programs and networking opportunities for world's largest association serving retail vending, OCS and food service industries.  Scope of charge included sales, marketing, program development, technical training, community partnerships and budgeting.

  • Spearheaded new product sales initiatives and promotions resulting in a 35% increase in sales from 1998 to 1999.
  • Developed creative instructional formats for trade shows which led to increased program participation.
  • Made significant contributions to the successful revitalization of NAMA’s member communications program.
  • Recipient of the President’s Award from Illinois Automatic Merchandising Council, May 2000.
  • Nominated for the Association Forum of Chicagoland’s 2000 Programming Achievement Award.

  • Oversaw efficient processing of over 600 continuing course requests from 40 ABA-wide entities on a yearly basis.
