Faculty Publications

NCE faculty continue to advance knowledge and practice in education through impactful scholarship. The following books and articles, published in recent months, reflect the breadth of their research, innovation, and commitment to improving teaching and learning.

  • NCE released the publication of the Spring 2026 issue of Inquiry in Education (i.e.) journal. Dedicated to the special topic of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Education, this issue also features 12 articles and a book review exploring topics including teacher preparation, belonging, social justice pedagogy, bilingual education, action research, and teaching and learning in K–12 and higher education settings. The issue features the editorial “Are We Up for an Adventure? Musings on AI and Beyond” by Professor Antonina Lukenchuk.
  • In the Illinois Reading Council Journal, Volume 54, No. 2., Professor Sophie Degener, Dr. Adelfio Garcia ('18 EdD), and Adjunct Alumna Faculty Member Dr. Ivy Sitkoski ('14 EdD) published the article, "Professional Development: Putting the Pieces Together," and Professor Kristin Lems published the article, "English Diphthongs for English Learners: The Same but Different,"
  • Associate Professor Mary Hoch published the peer reviewed research article, "High Impact Tutoring in Literacy Clinics: Evidence of Reading Gains in K 8 Students," in Literacy Research and Instruction in June 2026.
  • In Voices for Educational Equity, Volume 22, No. 1, a scholarly journal published by the Center for Success for High Need Schools, Professor Geri Chesner and Associate Professor Renee Gugel published the article, "The Principal Pipeline Paradox: Why Teacher Leadership Is the Key to Addressing the Principal Shortage," Associate Professor Gloria McDaniel Hall published also published the article, "Opinion: Listening as Leadership: How Truly Hearing Teachers Can Transform Our Schools."
  • Professor Emeritus Carlos M. Azcoitia published the article, "A New Model for Student Success," in The Ignatian (Bilingual Magazine), Volume 9, Issue 2, in June 2026.
  • Dr. Azcoitia also published the lead article and invited editorial, "How We Transform Ourselves to Achieve Academic, Community, and Personal Success: A Path of Purpose, Service, and Transcendence," in School Community Journal, Volume 36, No. 1, Spring/Summer 2026.
