Dana Hagerman, Ph.D. joined the faculty at National Louis University as an Assistant Professor in the National College of Education and the Reading Recovery® and Descubriendo la Lectura Center for Literacy in July of 2021.  She is currently completing a 1-year post-Doctoral study at Texas Woman’s University as she trains as a Reading Recovery Trainer.

Before joining NLU, Dr. Hagerman served as the Associate Dean and an Associate Professor at Edgewood College in Madison, Wisconsin.  She taught in both their graduate and undergraduate programs teaching literacy methods courses for elementary education certifications.  Her research interests include qualitative, longitudinal studies of literacy practices over time and across spaces.  She also has a passion for leading for social justice and equity in education and was a member of Education Deans for Justice and Equity (EDJE).

Dr. Hagerman has presented at numerous conferences including the American Education Research Association (AERA) conference, the Literacy Research Conference (LRA), and was an invited speaker in a panel at the 8th International Conference on Education and Social Justice in Honolulu, Hawaii.  She also has publications in Middle School Journal, Teaching and Learning Inquiry and the Wisconsin State Reading Association Journal.  Her latest publication is as a co-author of the book, Children in Immigrant Families Becoming Literate, which will be released in early 2022.

Dr. Hagerman’s research interests include early literacy development, teacher education and professional learning and issues of social justice and equity in education.
