Dr. Mitch Michalik
Assistant Professor, Special Education

Mitchell Michalik earned his Ed.D. in Teaching and Learning with a focus on Disability and Equity in Education from National Louis University, M.Ed./LBS1 in Special Education from UIC, and B.A. in Secondary Education/History from DePaul University.
Dr. Michalik began his career in special education in 2001 and has worked as a paraprofessional, special education teacher, behavior specialist, and district administrator. While he has taught in various educational environments, most of his experience comes from working with and for students with disabilities in alternative, special education settings.
The research interests of Dr. Michalik include exploring the effects of exclusionary and punitive discipline on students with disabilities, restorative practices in education, behavioral and social-emotional supports, and alternatives to traditional school discipline.
Dr. Michalik has many hobbies and interests, and now that he has completed his doctoral program, he looks forward to trying to remember what they were.
