New Teacher Induction Program

About

NLU’s National College of Education’s New Teacher Induction Program (NTI) was launched in Summer 2023 to assist teachers who were beginning their journey in the teaching profession. The program has been created as a space where new teachers can ask questions, share stories, and have a safe, stress-free environment to talk with one another about their challenges and successes while launching their careers.

Who is the program for? All NLU Teacher Preparation graduates (Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, Middle Grades Education, Secondary Education Special Education) in their first or second year of teaching.

What is this? A professional learning community to support the questions and issues common to new teachers in a safe, supportive space.

Why is this needed? Navigating the first years of teaching can be hard. Let’s stay together and continue learning and growing!

What will we do? In addition to our monthly meetings, we will utilize an online tool called Harmony Academy, a professional development series of modules based on themes and topics especially helpful to teachers navigating their first years of teaching. Teachers will complete these modules between meetings for a total of about 1 ½ hours per month.

How much will it cost? There is NO COST to our NLU Teacher Preparation graduates.  All participants will receive 30 Continuing Professional Development Credits (CPDUs) to use toward their continuing professional education requirements. Information describing the CPDU system can be found here: Professional Development for Illinois Teachers.

When does this program meet? The New Teacher Induction Program for 2025-2026 will meet via Zoom from 6:00 – 7:00 PM one Tuesday a month, from September 2025 through May 2026.

How do I sign up for the Induction Program? 2025-26 New Teacher Induction Program registration form
