Academic Expectations
At National Louis University, we uphold the highest standards of academic integrity to foster a culture of honesty, trust, and respect among our students, faculty, and staff. Maintaining academic honesty is crucial to the integrity of our academic community and the pursuit of knowledge. Therefore, all students are expected to adhere to the following principles:
Original Work: All work submitted by students must be their own original creation unless properly cited and attributed to its sources. Plagiarism, the use of someone else's work, ideas, or words without acknowledgment, is strictly prohibited.
Proper Citations: When using the ideas, words, or works of others, students must give proper credit through accurate citations and references according to the designated citation style specified by the instructor or department.
Collaboration: Collaboration among students is encouraged when it is explicitly permitted by the instructor. However, all collaborative work must be properly acknowledged, and individual contributions must be clearly identified.
Unauthorized Assistance: Students must not seek or receive unauthorized assistance on assignments, exams, or any other academic work unless explicitly permitted by the instructor. This includes but is not limited to unauthorized communication during exams, sharing answers, and obtaining assistance from external sources without permission.
Falsification and Fabrication: Students must not falsify or fabricate data, sources, citations, or any other information in their academic work. Providing false information or misrepresenting oneself or others is a violation of academic honesty.
Responsible Conduct: Students are expected to conduct themselves responsibly and ethically in all academic activities, including exams, assignments, research, and interactions with faculty and peers.
Consequences of Violations: Violations of academic honesty, including but not limited to plagiarism, cheating, and fabrication, will result in appropriate disciplinary action, which may include failing grades, academic probation, suspension, or expulsion from the university.
Important Information for UVM Partnership Students:
As an undergraduate student enrolled in any of the UVM partnership options at National Louis University (NLU), you are not subject to a time limitation to complete your program requirements. This means you can take the time you need to fulfill all your coursework.
However, please be aware that if you take a leave of absence (LOA) from NLU for more than one year, you will need to submit a re-entry form before you can be registered for classes again.
Note: Immediate registration into classes upon your return is not guaranteed and will depend on course availability at the time of your re-enrollment.
Educational Resources: National Louis University provides educational resources and support to help students understand and adhere to academic honesty policies. Students are encouraged to seek guidance from instructors, academic advisors, and university resources to ensure compliance with academic integrity standards.
By enrolling at National Louis University, students acknowledge their commitment to upholding these principles of academic honesty and integrity. Failure to adhere to these standards undermines the credibility of our academic programs and diminishes the value of the degrees earned by our students. We are committed to fostering a community of integrity where all members demonstrate honesty, fairness, and respect for intellectual property and academic standards.
