Biography:
Dr. Cari Stevenson so thoroughly enjoyed the National Louis University Community Psychology doctoral program that she chose to stay on as adjunct faculty after completing her doctorate. She is a full-time tenured psychology professor at Kankakee Community College where she also coordinates the Campus Mental Health program as well as support programming for student veterans. In addition to research involving veteran support, she is studying public perception of service dogs as well as outcomes among veterans with PTSD paired with service dogs.
Stevenson holds a Masters in Industrial/Organizational Psychology and has nearly 15 years of experience in Human Resources and consulting within organizations ranging from small, family run to Fortune 500 companies. As an I/O consultant, she assisted companies in establishing HR infrastructure such as job descriptions, performance evaluation tools, and compensation systems.

Research and Interests:
Dr. Stevenson is interested in factors such as sense of community, resilience, and empowerment that buffer against disempowering influences such as stigma, inequity, and prejudice. She is most interested in exploring the interrelationship between sense of community, sense of purpose, and empowerment particularly in underserved and underrepresented communities.
